Fundraising for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

This year our beneficiary for fund raising is the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (RRF), with whom we have been associated for over 50 years.

There are two exciting fund raising events taking place during June 2011.  Both events are designed to provide an opportunity to find out more about the Regiment, as well as support two of its key charities.

1.  An evening at HM Tower of London - 1st June

This event was attended by over 100 guests and included a tour of the Tower, an opportunity to visit the newly opened Fusiliers Regimental Museum, and a Cocktail Party of food and wine, the famous Ceremony of the Keys, as well as the opportunity to meet other members of the Company.  Around £3000 in total was raised for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum Trust.

2.  Cordwainers Fusilier Challenge - Saturday 25th June 10 am - 4 pm

For those who would like to see a little bit of action, there is the Cordwainers Fusilier Challenge on Saturday 25th June, 10 am - 4 pm.  The Fusiliers of C (City of London Fusiliers) Company, The London Regiment are offering a unique opportunity to enable Cordwainers to glimpse life in their shoes.  They are hosting a day of challenges followed by a BBQ at their Balham HQ, London, to raise money for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Aid Society.

The RRF is the only one to have had a formed battle group in both of the Gulf Wars and completed two further tours in Iraq.  In Afghanistan, the Fusiliers have  been involved in numerous tours either as a formed battle group or as individual reinforcements.  The Regiment has sustained some 19 killed in action and many Fusiliers have been left with severe injuries.  The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Aid Society is the RRF's benevolent fund which has dispensed approximately £120K in the last year to the families of the bereaved and other members of the Regiment who have fallen on hard times.  But with the increasing modern day demands on the Regiment, more funds are needed to carry on this good work.
