Charitable Work

Through the generosity of all benefactors, the Company supports some thirty different organisations and provides for the distribution of small grants to some 120 blind or deaf and dumb persons, clergymen’s widows and ex-servicemen each year. In addition to the educational establishments mentioned previously, the main beneficiaries of the Company’s charitable activities are:

The Royal Free Hospital which was founded in 1828 by William Marsden, a Liveryman and later Master of the Company. Scholarships and prizes are awarded annually in the School of Medicine and to Nurses.

The Royal London Society for the Blind and its school, Dorton House in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The Royal Hospital, Chelsea and its In-pensioners.

The Territorial Army and Cadets Support is given to C (City of London Fusiliers) Company, The London Regiment with whom the Company has been associated since 1954. 22, 135 and 212 Cadet Detachments, also badged as Fusiliers, have also been adopted.

Almshouses of which the Company manages four in Chesham, Buckinghamshire and five in Shorne, Kent.

Other Causes, mainly concerned with education or assistance towards provision of training or support for disabled or disadvantaged youth or the homeless.
